The University will award Auckland University Doctoral Scholarships to high-achieving doctoral candidates applying for admission to an approved doctoral programme.1 at the University of Auckland.
Students may only be considered for a University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship when applying for a place on the programme.
Changes to the University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship Program for all scholarship recipients from 1 January 2023
The University is pleased to announce that it will increase the stipends for all recipients of the University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship from 1 January 2023. The scholarship will increase to $33,000 and will be consumer price index (CPI) annually beginning January 1, 2024. ) retirement adjustment. All other tuition and compulsory fees will continue to be paid, including the single student Health Insurance compulsory fee for international candidates.
Revised rules for UOADS allow holders to undertake up to 750 hours of paid work within or outside the University during the 12-month period of the fellowship. This is an increase from the current 500 hours
The revised rules will come into force from 1 January 2023 for all University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship holders, unless you tell us you wish to stay within the current rules. If you tell us you don’t want to change the rules, you’ll still get the increased pension, but you won’t be able to do more than 500 hours of paid work in any 12-month period of the pension.
If you wish to remain within the current rules, you must contact us at scholarships@auckland.ac.nz by 15 December 2022.

How to apply
It’s easy! When you apply for a place at the University, you will also have the opportunity to confirm whether you wish to be accepted for an Auckland University Doctoral Scholarship – you do not need to apply separately.
There are no scholarship “rounds” or application forms in 2022. This means that you can apply to a PhD program when you are ready, safe in the knowledge that you will be considered for a scholarship when your grades are approved.
Scholarship offers will be made alongside offers of places in doctoral programmes.
There will be four rounds for 2023:

Taking your pension
Scholarships must be taken by one of the dates specified in the award letter or the Scholarship offer will be forfeited. Registration dates are shown in the table above.
