Within the given powers, the Chief Economic Affairs Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

ECONOMIC OR SECTORAL ANALYSIS:

  • Leads or participates in the formulation, organization and management of mandated programs of economic analysis, possible economic strategies, policies and measures for adoption by the international community, including on the interrelationship between peace and development.
  • Leads or participates in the identification of new or emerging development issues of potential concern to the international community, particularly of a regional or global nature, and brings them to the attention of the Economic and Social Council.
  • Oversees the implementation of institutional mandates emanating from the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly and the evolution of the UN’s approach to peace and development, including gender considerations.
