Please note that this information will apply to Brock University’s OGS application process. Each university will have its own application and deadline.

The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) program promotes excellence in graduate education at the master’s and doctoral levels. The OGS award is worth $15,000 for one year, $5,000 for one term. Students can receive the award for two terms ($10,000) or three terms ($15,000), with most scholarships awarded for three terms. One-time awards are not given.
Students must apply for the award at the university where they plan to attend graduate school. The award is not transferable from University to University. This means that all undergraduate and graduate students who wish to apply for OGS who plan to study at the graduate level at Brock must apply and submit their OGS application to Brock.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be admitted to OGS, students must do the following:

  • Students studying in Ontario with a study permit or visa.
  • be enrolled in or applying for admission to a full-time graduate program at Brock while receiving the award.
  • Accepting a suitable program on a full-time basis.

An eligible program is defined as a two- or three-term full-time study program at an eligible institution leading to a master’s degree.

Visa Students:
International students studying in Ontario with a temporary resident visa – student study permit under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) are eligible for allocated visa student awards (Brock allocation 2).

Minimum Academic Requirements:
Applicant must meet at least the following OGS academic requirements:

  • students must have an overall average of at least A- (80%) in each of the last two completed years of study (full-time equivalent).

Eligibility conditions:
Master’s students can receive a scholarship for a maximum of two years and doctoral students for a maximum of four years, with a lifetime maximum of six years per student.

In addition, a maximum of six (6) years of lifetime government-sponsored student awards must not have been passed by the applicant. Rewards for the following programs will be credited to this lifetime maximum:

  • Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program (OGS)
  • Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEIIGSST)
  • Ontario Trillium Scholarships (OTS)
  • Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)

Applicants cannot simultaneously receive an OGS scholarship and an award from any of the following programs:

  • Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEIIGSST)
  • Ontario Trillium Scholarships (OTS)
  • Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)

Recipients must be enrolled as a full-time student in an eligible program. Recipients who withdraw an award, transition to part-time status, or fail to complete the term will be required to return the award.

OSAP restrictions

Students with an OSAP restriction on their file cannot receive their scholarship until the restriction is lifted. At the time of payment, if the Faculty of Graduate Studies detects a restriction in the student’s file, the student will be contacted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and informed of the deadline by which they must remove the restriction or forfeit their award.

  • OGS App
  • Transcripts — all official undergraduate and graduate transcripts showing that you are currently enrolled are required along with a copy of the transcript legend.

Deadline: On or before January 15, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.

Academic Evaluations and Letter of Support:

  • Academic Evaluation Report – 2 required (must be submitted by a referee – see below)
  • Submission of an academic report and letter of support must be submitted by the above deadline.
