Applications for the MOPGA fellowship program for young international researchers are open until January 16, 2023. 40 grants will be awarded to laureates working on topics related to climate change and the environment.

France is launching a new MOPGA visiting fellowship program aimed at strengthening scientific contributions to climate change issues raised by COPs as a key player in the fight against climate change and a guarantor of the spirit of the Paris Agreement.

This is the sixth Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) challenge 40 young researchers who want to do research in France. The program is jointly funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, and implemented by Campus France.

The MOPGA 2023 Visiting Fellowship Program for Young Researchers will support researchers working on climate change issues.

40 scholarships will be awarded to successful young researchers for 12 months starting September 2023.

Who can apply?

Foreign researchers who meet the following conditions may apply:

  • Have a PhD in less than 5 years
  • being exclusively a foreign national
  • Has not lived in France after September 1, 2022 (more than 90 days)

A research residency agreement will be established between institutions and awardees with the host institution and will specifically detail the facilities available to the laboratory for the researcher to carry out the research project.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT (IN ENGLISH OR FRENCH)

  • Research Project Title
  • Keywords (6)
  • Summary of the research project (max. 2000 characters)
  • Context and Motivation (max. 2000 characters)
  • Scientific Objectives (2000 char. max.)
  • Methodology and Chronology (max. 4500 characters)
  • Project position related to MOPGA scientific field (max. 2000 char.)
  • Collaborations and/or implications for the candidate’s country of residence related to the research project proposal (max. 2000 characters)

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • Foreign researchers Hold a PhD for less than 5 years
  • No nationality restrictions (except France)
  • 40 scholarships will be awarded for 12 month period From September 2023.

This scholarship includes the following benefits:

  • Monthly allowance 2500 euros
  • 500 euro relocation allowance
  • Support for social security coverage
  • Health insurance support

A HOsting Agreement (convention de stay de recherche) To be arranged between the MOPGA Fellow and the host institution. This Agreement will define the facilities and resources provided by the host laboratory to enable the researcher to carry out the research project. Five broad research themes are relevant:

  • Earth systems
  • Climate change and sustainability
  • Energy transition
  • Social problems of environmental problems
  • Human, animal and ecosystem health as part of the One Health approach.

SELECTION PROCESS

In line with the ambitions and requirements of this call for applications, the selection process will be conducted in two stages. In the first stage, scientific experts in each relevant field will evaluate the applications. In the second phase, the international committee will select 40 finalists for the MOPGA 2023 program.

COMPATIBILITY

Those who meet the following criteria can apply:

  • Applicants without French citizenship
  • Foreign researchers who have a doctoral degree for less than 5 years (must have passed the dissertation defense between December 2017 and January 2023)
  • Foreign researchers who have not lived in France after September 1, 2022 (more than 90 days)

DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED

  1. A CV including a list of your publications in English (maximum 4 pages)
  2. PhD degree (or PhD degree certificate)
  3. CV of your research supervisor at the French host institution (maximum 2 pages)
  4. Letter of support from the French host institution
  5. Letters of recommendation (max. 3)
  6. Passport or identity document

TIMELINE

  • October 12, 2022: Application period opens
  • January 16, 2023: Application period ends
  • End of June 2023: Notification of results
  • Between September 2023 and December 2023 (at the latest): Arrival in France and start of scholarship
