Funding your Master’s degree: Excellence Scholarships

For all students entering the M.Sc

ENS de Lyon and its partners offer scholarships to excellent international students to enroll in Master’s programs in Exact Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (excluding FEADép Master’s programs):

  • Ampere Excellence Scholarships
    • Eligible master’s programs: all master’s programs (except FEADép master’s programs)
    • Amount: €1,000 per month for one academic year (conditionally renewable)

Ampere Excellence Scholarships

  • About 20 scholarships are awarded each year
  • Eligible Master’s programs: All Master’s programs in Exact Sciences, Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences (except FEADéP Master’s programs). Please refer to the Ampère scholarship regulations (document on the right)
  • Amount: €1,000 per month for one academic year (conditionally renewable)

Special partnership with some countries
– Our partnership with the French Embassy in Romania and Campus France allows us to offer 2 Excellence scholarships for students from Romania.
– American students enrolled in a US university applying to a master’s program at ENS de Lyon can also apply to the French Embassy in the US. Postgraduate Scholars in France Scholarship Program.

Applications are open for all ENS Masters open to international students

Application process

Application for application 2023-2024 is open from December 1, 2022 to January 10, 2023

Please note : All information about the next academic year will be updated in December.

Please note : carefully read all the information and required documents before starting your application and choose your master’s program.

  1. Fill and submit the online application form.
    Important information: you must register to access the form by clicking the link below. After registration, you will be able to join and access the form.
    ONLINE FORM – OPEN

    Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
    Applications sent via email will not be considered.
    Incomplete applications will not be considered – it is the student’s responsibility to check that all required documents have been uploaded.
    The required documents are listed below.

    Please note: this form allows you to apply for a master’s program and an excellence scholarship.

  2. Application review: all applications are reviewed by the admissions committee of ENS de Lyon. No results will be given over the phone.
  3. Admission and registration: if your application is accepted, you will receive a pre-registration letter with the steps to take to register.

Documents are required

Please note: The International Student Office will not pre-approve the application. It is the student’s responsibility to verify that all required documents are uploaded. Uploaded documents will be verified after approval of online application.

See below for the documents that candidates must upload in the application form – in French or English ONLY:

  • All candidates:
    • Two referee letters (in French or English) from professors who have close knowledge of your work – if you cannot download the letters, they can be sent by the professors to ampere.scholarship@ens-lyon.fr. your name and master’s is clearly written in the title of your chosen document)
    • Letter of encouragement
    • Autobiography
    • Certificate of already obtained diplomas and degrees (eg: Bachelor’s degree) – documents are accepted only in French or English. If the document is in another language, you must submit an officially certified document translated into French or English.
    • Transcript of university academic records – documents are accepted in French or English only. If the document is in another language, you must submit an officially certified document translated into French or English.
    • For the current year: proof of registration – documents are accepted only in French or English –
      NOTE: If not currently available, the diploma required for admission to the Master’s program must be issued before the beginning of the academic year (mandatory)
  • If you have Apply to a master’s program in Arts, Humanities, Languages ​​or Social Sciences:
    • a summary of your research project in French (minimum 3 pages) – except for the Master of Advanced Economics (in English)
      main reasons for selection, justification regarding previous research in the same field (personal or not), methodological direction, indicative bibliography, list of personal publications or participation in colloquium (if applicable)
    • certificate of proficiency in French and/or English
  • If you have Application to Master’s Program in Exact Sciences:
    • certificate of proficiency in English and/or French
