Students ring fenced

NWCDTP is committed to equality of opportunity and works to ensure that our cohort of graduate researchers reflects the diverse community we serve. Given that postgraduate researchers from Global Majority, Disabled and Socio-Economically Disadvantaged communities are currently under-represented in our programs and in the UK university sector, we have introduced a number of positive measures to help meet these commitments. The introduction of these measures follows a review of our recruitment processes and forms part of our three-year plan to achieve greater diversity and better equality outcomes.

One of the steps we took as part of this plan was the introduction of fenced students over a 2-year period (2021-2023). In 2022/3 we will award a studentship guarantee to one candidate from Global Majority (including heritage) communities. Applicants from these groups will, of course, be considered as part of our recruitment of all existing students. Students who consider themselves to be from a socioeconomically disadvantaged background can apply for the Broken Pipeline scholarship. Finally, as a means of addressing the problematic disparity within the discipline, we are offering a scholarship to a Woman (in this context, a woman means anyone who identifies as a woman) student of Philosophy. Apart from the Broken Pipeline scholarship, these ring fenced students are open to International applicants.
